Cricket: Its just a game...

3 religions in one pic

Cricket is a religion and the players demi-gods. We have kept them on such high pedestals that it is impossible for us to accept their failures. The highs and lows that are associated with the game create a turmoil in our souls, victory causes elation and defeat leads to depression.
It is a well accepted fact that in cricket frenzied nations like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, which have common roots, cricket is worshiped like no other sport. The loss during the Champions trophy final was unbearable since It was a meek surrender to our rival nation but the CWC 2019 semifinal was a loss against a weaker nation which is more difficult to comprehend. But instead of the brickbats this time, its chants of “Well played Team India” that is doing the rounds. Probably we are trying to find solace in the fact that we did a good job during the tournament by just about managing to beat countries like Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Or are we hiding our depressed moods under a false shield of optimism. Rather than breaking TV sets and throwing stones at their houses, let us accept that these cricketers are humans and not deities. They are bound to perform poorly sometimes, either due to their inadequacies or when asked to do so.
If we cannot disconnect with the ups and downs of this game, it would be prudent to disconnect with the game itself.
